ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 17TH

Attention all band, choir, and colorguard parents. Our next Band and Choir Booster Meeting will be Monday evening, September 24th at 6 PM in the bandroom. All band and choir members get extra credit for you, their parent, attending.

All band and choir activity fees are due now.

Interim reports will be coming home this week.

Red Devil Concert Choir rehearsals will be this Wednesday morning in the choir room at 7:29 AM. Don’t be late.

All band members should always come to band class with their instrument, reeds or oil, a pencil and their music.

All band, choir and colorguard members. Mark your calender. The GMS Band, Choir, and Colorguard Skating Party is Friday evening, October 19th, from 5 PM until 7 PM at the East End Skating Rink on Mt. Moriah. Come join the fun. Parents, you are invited also.

There is Full Marching Band practice after school this week on Tuesday and Thursday. Full Band includes all drumline members, colorguard members, woodwind members, brass members, banner carriers, and field commanders. Your child must be present at all practices to be able to participate in the marching band.

SIXTH GRADE BAND

Seventy minute practice time sheets are due every week as part of your child’s grade. If it is more convenient, please email in your child’s practice times.

If your child has not played their assignemtns for Mr. Lane, they have until the end of the nine weeks to do and Mr. Lane will change their grade.

Sixth Grade Band Parents. Please mark your calender. Our first Sixth Grade Band Concert will be Tuesday, October 23rd at 6 PM in the GMS Cafeteria. All Sixth Grade Band members need to be in their seat ready for warmups no later than 5:45. They must be in full uniform for the concert which is black pants, black socks, black shoes and the Red Devil Band T - Shirt. Come join the fun at the first concert. Here such GREAT songs as Mary Had A Little Lamb, Hot Cross Buns and many others. Come here the Superstars as well.

SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE BAND

Seventy minute practice time sheets are due every week as part of your child’s grade. If it is more convenient, please email in your child’s practice times.

This weeks practice schedule for marching band is:
M - Drumline, Colorguard and Field Commanders
T - Full Band, Drumline, Colorguard and Field Commanders
W - Colorguard
Th - Full Band, Drumline, Colorguard and Field Commanders
F - Drumline in the choir room and Jazz Band in the bandroom

Parents, please change the date on your calender for the Veteran’s Day Parade. The new date should be Friday, November 9th. The parade will be begin at 10 AM in downtown Memphis.

Uniform sizing for the marching band members will continue this week during after school practices. Look for a date and time coming about the check out date. Marching shoes will be sold during uniform sizing. Information will be sent home with your child. All marching band members must have all black premier marching shoes to be able to participate with the marching band. No member will be sized until their activity fee is paid.

If your child has not played some of these assignments yet, they have until the end of the nine weeks to do so and Mr. Lane will change their grade. When you see Full Band mentioned, it means all members of the marching band.

We are off to a GREAT start with the marching band. Starting this week, the week of September 17th, we will put the full band together for practices after school.

The weather has cooled down some, but it is still hot. Please send in a 12 pack or 24 pack of water, cokes, etc., so we can give the marching band members a drink at the end of practice.

Parents, please mark your calender. The GMS Band and Choir and Colorguard Skating Party is Friday evening, October 19th, from 5 PM until 7 PM, at the East End Skating Rink on Mt. Moriah. Parents, you are invited to participate as well. How long has it been since you have had a pair of roller skates on and skated. Come do the limbo, do the Hokey Pokey with Mr. Lane and Ms. Ward, and JUST HAVE FUN!!!!!

COLORGUARD

Attention all Colorguard members. There are practices after school this week.
M - Colorguard practice with your instructor
T - Colorguard practice with the Full Marching Band
W - Colorguard practice with your instructor
Th - Colorguard practice with the Full Marching Band

All Colorguard Activity Fees are due now. Activity fees for Colorguard members are $125. If you are a band or choir member, you must may that and half your colorguard fee.

Come join the fun at the GMS Band, Choir and Colorguard Skating Party on Friday evening, October 19th, from 5 PM until 7 PM at the East End Skating Rink on Mt. Moriah. Parents, you are urged to attend and participate as well.

SIXTH GRADE GENERAL MUSIC

Look for an information sheet this week with your child about our first music project. Students have the option to do the music project. The grade they receive for the music project will replace any grade they have for the nine weeks.

Information sheets are due now. Many students have not turned in their information sheets. As soon as your child turns in their information sheet, Mr. Lane will change your child’s grade.

All general music students, as part of their grade, must come each class period with a music folder and pencil or pen.
