CHRISTMAS PARADES UPDATE
The Mighty Red Devil Marching Band and Colorguard did a GREAT job at the Veteran’s Day Parade last Monday. A very special thanks to all of you parents who helped make it a great day and parade. Ms. Ward, Ms. Pittard and I are really proud of our band and colorguard. They did really AWESOME in the parade. Now, however, it’s time to get ready for our competitions in the Christmas Parades. Hopefully, this letter will answer any and all questions you may have about these upcoming parades and concerts.
Our first Christmas parade is the Collierville Christmas Parade, Friday night, November 30th. The parade begins on Byhalia Road in Collierville and ends at Collierville High School on Byhalia Road. This parade is judged. The judges’ stand will be just in front of the Collierville Baptist Church on Byhalia Rd. All band members, colorguard, and banner carriers will need to be at the bandroom no later than 5:15 PM on Friday, November 30th. Buses will leave at approximately 5:40 PM. Band members will be back at the school no later than 8:30 PM. The uniform of the day will be full uniform, hats, black shoes, black socks, and white gloves. Hair must be off the collar and under the hat. Full uniforms, black socks, and black shoes for the colorguard and their hair should be up the same as the Veteran’s Day Parade.
Our second Christmas parade is the Germantown Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 1st at 1 PM. This parade will also be judged. The Germantown Parade begins at the corner of Farmington and Kimbrough and ends at the Germantown Performing Arts Center. The judges’ stand will be at the corner of Farmington and Exeter. We will not be taking buses to this parade. All Mighty Red Devil Band members, colorguard members and banner carriers need to report to the back parking lot of the Farmington Presbyterian Church on Farmington Boulevard no later than 12 noon PM on Saturday, December 1st. Parents, please pick up your child at the conclusion of this parade in the front parking lot of the Germantown Performing Arts Center. You and your child are free to leave at the conclusion of the parade.
Monday night, December 3rd, at 6:30 PM, is our GMS Holiday Concert at the Germantown Performing Arts Center on Exeter Road. All Mighty Red Devil Band members, colorguard, and banner carriers need to be in their seats in the back room no later than 6:15 PM on December 3rd. There is an admission charge for the Holiday Concert this year. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students. All band members performing will be admitted free through the side door. The uniform for the concert will be full uniform, no hats or gloves, black shoes and black socks. Colorguard members will wear the same uniform and hair style as the Christmas parades. No band or choir members will be permitted to leave until the completion of the concert.
Our final Christmas Parade is the Merry Christmas Memphis Parade on Saturday, December 15th, at 4 PM in downtown Memphis. This is the first time we have ever done this parade and this parade will definitely be judged. We will be marching down Beale Street in downtown Memphis. All band members, colorguard members, and banner carriers need to wear the same uniform as the Collierville and Germantown Christmas Parades. The Merry Christmas Memphis Parade looks like it’s going to be a really large parade. Come join the fun. As soon as I find out where the judges’ stand will be I will let you parents know so we can definitely all gather around the judges’ stand and give our big “RED DEVIL ROAR” as the band marches by. All marching band members will need to report to the bandroom in full marching uniform on Saturday, December 15th, no later than 2 PM. Buses will leave at 2:15 PM sharp.
Any parent wishing to take their child home with them from the parade sight after any of the parades must check out their child with Mr. Lane after the students have re-loaded on the buses after the parade. Students may only be checked out by their parents.
Our practice schedule can be found at the end of this letter. Members will be permitted only one absence from a practice or performance to participate with the Mighty Red Devil Marching Band and in these upcoming events. Come out and support the band at each of these parades and the Holiday Concert. Gather around the judges’ stand, wear your red, and give us a big “RED DEVIL ROAR” as we march by. All the cheering that you parents and family members gave the band as they marched through the reviewing area in the Veteran’s Day Parade sounded AWESOME. Even the band members talked about it. See you at the parades and concert.
John Lane, Jill Ward and Anna Pittard
